After the first jump, you must make additional jumps under the supervision of a current Instructor or Jumpmaster.  In this phase, the emphasis is on specific skills.  If done correctly, you may then make your first solo freefall; a great occasion!  Never before have you felt such a sense of total independence.  Now it's just you and the sky!  After you have learned to pack a parachute and direct the aircraft, you become a parachutist.  This means you are capable of skydiving independent of supervision.  Now you're hooked; born again of the third dimension.  These achievements are compiled for eventual license qualification, which is possible after 20 freefalls of appropriate duration, and demonstration of competence in relative work.  In relative work, two or more jumpers exit the aircraft simultaneously to come together in mid-air and join formation.  It's in this phase that you become a "skydiver!"  Having acquired this newfound sense of confidence and independence, you have made available to yourself the opportunity to behold some of the rarely seen beauty and dynamics of the world:  beauty which cannot be adequately described on paper.  But it is here to be experienced.
